Welcome to Kinship Telford
When children are cared for by members of their extended families, friends or other people who are connected with them, for a variety of reasons, and in a range of different arrangements, we call this kinship care (and sometimes family and friends care). This could be for a short period of time while family members have support to make changes or over a longer-term arrangement.
Then you could be a ‘kinship carer’, often referred to as a 'family and friend's carers' or 'connected persons.'
We offer help and advice to kinship families and can direct you to helpful and relevant services. We are here to help you.
The Telford and Wrekin Kinship Local Offer outlines the support available for kinship carers, birth parents, children, and young people in the area. This marks the beginning of our journey to strengthen and expand the support we provide.
The SEND Local Offer is designed to bring together essential information across education, health, and social care to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
In Telford and Wrekin, Family Help is delivered through Family Hubs which are welcoming community spaces that offer a wide range of support services tailored to family needs.
Children and young people in kinship arrangements may face complex emotional, social, and developmental challenges. We are committed to offering compassionate support to ensure all children and young people in kinship arrangements have the opportunity to thrive.
Kinship care offers children stability and lifelong benefits within their family network. We recognise the challenges carers face, especially around trauma and complex relationships. We aim to provide timely, tailored support to help them offer the best care possible.
When it is in the best interests of the child or young person, the involvement of birth parents in their lives should be preserved. We understand that this can sometimes be challenging, and we’re here to help.
